INFORMATION
A collection of covers sung by Shiina Ringo. Although it technically is, Shiina does not count it as her third album.

Utaite Myoli is split into two disc's with two covers. The Kame-Pact Disc (the white cover) was produced by Kamede Kame, and the Mori-Pact Disc (the black cover) was produced by Mori Toshiyuki.
Several tracks are duets and the album contains a mixture of English, Japanese, French, German and Portuguese.

Utaite Myoli was released on the anniversary of her debut single, Koufukuron, as well as the same day as the release of her older brother's (Shiina Junpei, who appears on Utaite Myoli) album, discover. Shiina Ringo also appears on a track named WHERE IS THE LOVE on the discover album.

'Utaite Myoli' is translated to 'A Singer's Luck', and it should be noted that 'Utaite' is a traditional word, being rarely used compared to the modern word for singer, 'Kashu'. The way it is spelt is also outdated.

INFORMATION
Shiina's third and final album is held by the majority as her most perfected and artistic album. The first press came with a sticker (click here).
The lyrics are written entirely in ancient Japanese style, and the booklet is composed right to left, and therefore begins at what would be known as the back of a Western booklet. It also uses formal kanji script for the numbering of each track (壱、弐、参、肆、伍、陸、漆、捌、玖、拾、拾壱). This style is generally only used for formal legal documents.
The album contains over 30 instruments, some of which Shiina played herself (see below for a list of credits for each song).
KZK was the 28th highest selling album of 2003.

ROMANIZATION OF THE TITLE
Before the release of the Electric Mole live DVD, which held the proper romanization of Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana, there was much debate on the title of this album. This is because of Shiina's use of obsolete kanji to sound out foreign words.
-Kalk means 'Chalk' in German.
-Zamen means 'Seed' in German, and is a euphemism for 'Semen'. The album was presented under the alias "KSK" on promotional posters, making this word 'Samen'. Many believe the 'S' symbolises Shiina's name.
-Kuri no hana means 'Chestnut flower' in Japanese.
The title therefore can be translated as 'Chalk, Semen, Chestnut Flower'. But is not necessarily correct.

Another popular romanization is Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana.

ALBUM SYMMETRY
The album also has a 'symmetrical' style, with each track relating to the track symmetrically opposite to itself on the album. For example, tracks 1 and 11 have similarities, as do tracks 2 and 10, 3 and 9 and so on. See below for an explanation of each of these similarities. Shouso Strip presents similar symmetry in each of it's track titles.

Click to see details of the symmetry as well as track credits...

INFORMATION
Heisei Fuuzoku, although often advertised as a comeback to the solo music industry, is a collaboration album with violinist and composer Saito Neko. It also serves as an 'image album' for the movie adaptation of the manga Sakuran. Shiina Ringo was also credited as the Music Director of the movie.

The album includes new songs, covers and self-covers, all re-arranged and re-recorded with Saito Neko. Kuki, Ishiki, Meisei and Poltergeist are all recorded in a similar style to that performed on the Baishou Exstacy DVD. Yokushitsu is both a vocal and musical mix between the original and the "English version", La Salle de Bain.

Both a limited and a normal edition were released. The limited edition includes a cross-shaped special digipak, a coaster and three stickers.

Heisei is the current era in Japan, and Fuuzoku can either mean manners, customs or sex service, usually referring to prostitution or the like. The tracklist also carries a strong theme of prostitution, relating to
Sakuran. Hatsukoi Shoujo can be translated as 'First Love Prostitute', Otome as "Virgin", and Oiran, being Tsuchiya Anna's character in the film. However, Shiina Ringo's translation of the title is "Japanese Manners".

Saito Neko featured in both the Baishou Exstacy and Ringohan 05 ADULTS ONLY performances, as well as a number of Shiina Ringo's older recordings
.

TRACK TITLE TRANSLATIONS
Unlike all of Shiina Ringo's/Tokyo Jihen's (bar Muzai Moratorium) previous albums, Heisei Fuuzoku's tracklist is not completely symmetrical. However, the symmetry is evident in the track title "translations" provided in the album booklet.
